Fate/Battlefront

Fate/Battlefront is a board game based off the Fate franchise made by TYPE-MOON. It utilises a card based drawing system to randomise games and force players to adapt. It also makes each game unique with so many possibilities for each game to begin.

What is Fate?

Initially developed by TYPE-MOON, Fate is a concept where Heroic Spirits are summoned into modern day to fight a “Holy Grail War” to obtain the omnipotent wish granting device – the Holy Grail. Holy Grail Wars involve Masters – that support and summon Servants to fight for them – and then the Servants themself. These Heroic Spirits can be genuine historical figures, mythological characters or even just urban myths and they can be summoned into one of seven classes: Archer, Saber, Lancer, Rider, Assassin, Caster and Berserker. In Fate/Battlefront, Servants are classified into Common, Rare and Legendary rarities based on their strength. Given below are the Legendary Servants of each class.

Gilgamesh

The fabled demigod ruler of the ancient kingdom of Uruk, this arrogant man was so powerful that even the gods feared and were unable to restrain him. Legend has it that he gathered every single weapon and tool in the world at his time and that all future Mystics and legendary weapons and tools would develop from what were then his possessions. This concept evolved into his Noble Phantasm – the Gate of Babylon which contains the original of every single weapon and power in the world. Since Gilgamesh decided that it would be fun to just shoot things out of his Gate of Babylon, he is summoned into the Archer class.

Altria Pendragon

Although the name of Arthur Pendragon, or King Arthur, is rather famous, in actuality, Arthur was not a man but rather a woman. Being almost synonymous with the very word ‘knight,’ Altria (or at least Arthur) is known almost everywhere around the world and despite qualifying for various other classes, she is most suited for the Saber class while wielding the legendary sword, Excalibur.

Enkidu

Before the gods gave up on combating the menace that was Gilgamesh, they tried their very last tactic. They gave life to pile of clay and had it learned of the world by a human. This clump would later meet the tyrannical Gilgamesh and fight him before becoming the king’s one and only friend. Enkidu was initially meant to be the Chains of Heaven to bind Gilgamesh. As a spear that the gods intended to use to use to fight back, Enkidu is summoned into the Lancer class.

ozy.png

Ozymandias

Better known as Ramesses II, Ozymandias was the ruler of Egypt sometime in the 13th and 14th centuries. Many anecdotes portray him as the pharaoh during the Exodus and Ten Plagues and as the brother of none other than Moses. A brilliant and wise king who was loved by his people and loved them in turn, the seventy something years he spent ruling over Egypt were some of the most peaceful years they had seen. Armed with Mesektet, a chariot that could supposedly sail through the skies, Ozymandias qualifies for the Rider class.

King Hassan

In the year 1090, a remote town in the Middle East was formed and inhabited by a group known as the Hashashins. This group’s name would later become the basis for the word ‘assassin’. Their leader was termed “The Old Man of the Mountain” and King Hassan is the enigmatic first Old Man of the Mountain . Despite not being known very well, as a man that assassinated hundreds of men and women in his lifetime, King Hassan is always summoned into the Assassin class.

merlin.png

Merlin

Known very well as the court mage and guide of King Altria, Merlin was infamous for how he would help (and torture) her to help her overcome various hardships. Merlin was also the man who had set up the trial of the Sword in the Stone and had it fixed so that none but the young Altria could draw the sword. His mixed blood as the offspring of an incubus and a human granted him a natural affinity for the magical arts and his specialisation was in illusions resulting in him being summoning into the Caster class.

beowulf.png

Beowulf

The protagonist of what is said to be the oldest epic poem in English Literature, Beowulf was a king in modern day Sweden and Denmark. In the poem, Beowulf was initially just a soldier. After he fought with a giant named Grendel and tore him to pieces with his bare hands, he was greatly rewarded and later made the king of the land. The second part details on how Beowulf fought against a dragon fifty years later and defeated the dragon single handedly before dying due to the dragon’s poison. Due to the anecdote of him tearing Grendel to pieces in a frenzied craze, Beowulf is placed into the Berserker class.
